Build in the open

Builders

Build markets without rebuilding the foundation

Open Markets is an initiative for builders creating interoperable marketplaces for products, services, and digital exchange. It provides a shared model for the full transaction lifecycle while leaving each project free to design the experience its community needs.

Instead of rebuilding discovery, ordering, payment, and resolution for every application, builders can work from common open protocols. You can build a focused marketplace, extend an existing service, or contribute reusable infrastructure that helps the wider ecosystem grow.

The four stages of a transaction

  1. Offer — product or service. A seller publishes what is available, including the terms, price, and information a buyer needs to make a decision.
  2. Order — cart procedure. A buyer selects one or more offers and turns that intent into an order with quantities, delivery details, and agreed terms.
  3. Payment — settlement. The parties settle through an appropriate method, including on-chain payments, Lightning, ecash, Monero, or an escrow arrangement.
  4. Resolution — completion. The transaction reaches its outcome through shipping goods, delivering a service, completing a swap, or resolving a dispute.
